Die Fledermaus - Strauss II
Operantics' new production brings Strauss' beloved operetta to Manhattan in the roaring 20s with a brand new libretto.
It's the evening of Prince Orlofsky's ball and Gabriel von Eistenstein is evading prison to attend with the help of his friend, Dr. Falke, who secretly bears him a grudge. Meanwhile his wife, Roselinde, fights off the advances of a persistent suitor, and follows Eisenstein to the ball in disguise, intending to catch him in a flirtation. Their starstruck maid, Adele, is scheming too, attending Orlofsky's ball in the hopes of impressing a Broadway producer.
“With uplifting songs, smart and sassy dialogue, pop culture references and excellent comic timing, this production of Die Fledermaus is a credit to amateur opera and it is only a shame its season is so brief. It’s the best party I’ve been to in a long while and I was pleasantly surprised to see an old art form re-invigorated for a new audience.”
