Synopsis
Operantics brings Bellini’s La Sonnambula to Penrith in a captivating concert performance, showcasing the soaring beauty and emotional nuance of this bel canto gem alongside the full forces of the Penrith Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Paul Terracini.
Set in a peaceful alpine village, the story follows Amina, a young woman on the cusp of marriage to her beloved Elvino. But when she is discovered sleepwalking in the bedroom of a visiting count, the joyous occasion turns to scandal. Her innocence is questioned, her engagement shattered, and her reputation left in tatters—until the truth behind her mysterious nighttime wanderings is revealed.
A masterpiece of vocal virtuosity and lyrical grace, La Sonnambula is a moving portrait of love, misunderstanding, and forgiveness. Bellini’s score is filled with radiant melodies, heartfelt arias, and moments of sublime tenderness that shine in the concert hall just as brightly as they do on the opera stage.
This special opera in concert brings together a stellar cast of soloists and orchestra to share the power and shimmering elegance of one of the great romantic operas with audiences in Western Sydney.
